Well, like a lot of people i have just got back from the Lakes weekender and it was brilliant. OK, it rained. But it rained everywhere in the UK this weekend so who cares. Beefy Lisa and Andy came across from York whilst Jimmy Sharon and Shaun came across from Newcastle but the main man 'Craig i don't do things by half Ballantyne' came down from Aberdeen and in the horrific weather.
My journey started by leaving Southport at 9;30 Friday morning to try and stay ahead of the rain but those who ride with me will tell you that i ride at a speed where the flies hit you in the back of the head!! The rain was already in and getting heavier as the day progressed. By Preston i stopped and put on my second water proof jacket as the weather was relentless.
Quick stop off in Lancaster for a brew and a buttie at Neal and Dena's before cracking on.
As i said before, it rained everywhere in the UK this weekend so if you were rallying anywhere then you couldn't pick a better location than Great Langdale and if you haven't been there then i suggest you go as it is breathtaking. You have to hand it to the LSA they have got us the best rally site in the world, stunning is the only way to describe it. Kieth and the crew had been on site since Thursday where they had basked in the glorious sunshine and now the rain was here and in bucket loads. Scooters ploughed through the mud and tents got muddier and still the rain came but the LSA kept at it. If there were medals to be given out then it would have to be to the LSA team because against all the odds they pulled this rally off.
People came and people went but those that were there on Saturday had a blinding night in the Cattle Shed. There was something of a Dunkirk spirit about everyone that was there and as the rain came it sort of got funnier?? Good music, good booze at a quid a tin and great company. The rain kept coming but no one gave a shit as by now everyone was up for a 'bit of a do' and not a velvet suit or a pair of Chelsea to be seen anywhere!! We all ended up in the Pub later and Beefy gave an XFactor winning rendition of Reach For the Stars by Sclub 7!!! Priceless. Back at the Hostel i took to wearing Lisas jacket and she has the photos but i have photos of her cleavage; so we struck a deal??? This was after deleting about 10 piccys of Craigs spotty bits after he hijacked my camera. Lots of beer and only one swamper but he was a chef so its kinda expected. Rally's come and go but in my own humble opinion its all about the company you keep and they are the people that make you belly laugh at the weekend in the pouring rain.
Everyone got back safe and sound with no breakdowns. Scootering - Its about the journey which is riding along side your mates going as fast as the slowest scooter......Style doesn't hurry.
My hat is off to the LSA.
PS. I want to use this opportunity to re establish my ability to 'Ride Hard' as on the Beer Pigs ride i was over taken by an Ice Cream Van blah blah blah blah... well, on the way back i fookin burnt off a Chinchento! |
