The Billericay And District Old Firm SC

Help For Heroes Charity Function 25 Oct 2008

The Billericay And District Old Firm SC decided back in June that we would like to assist with the big effort made by the other Essex club for the “Help For Heroes” charity. Following the outstanding day run by the ELMS SC in July, we put on a couple of Thursday night DJ events and raised a £100, but we knew we could do much better. Saturday 25th of October was the date set for our first major club function, at our home club base at The Forge, in Billericay.
We got a brand new band, “Tommy Atkins” for free and a sound guy for the same. Plus we’ve got our own club member, Martin Lippross who masquerades as the excellent “DJ Earl Grey”, so we cracked on with getting as many people to come along as possible. The do was Free to get in, with a charity bucket being passed through the crowd all evening.

Lippy started the night with a soul set of rarities interspersed with some club classics, and then at 9.15 sharp, “Tommy Atkins” hit the floor with an ace set of 9 original tunes and 3 re-arranged covers in a Hammond based indie pop style. When we found out the lads had only had 3 rehearsals we didn’t quite believe it, these guys are as tight as f**k! We reckon you’ll be hearing a lot more from this band. By this time it was standing room only as we had around 200 people in the pub, a great mix of scooterists and locals, who absolutely loved it!
After the band had received rapturous applause for their virgin gig performance together, Lippy got back on the decks and played a set of 79’ Revival tunes before Blocky got on there and played a 20 minute blast of new wave followed by a crowd pleasing set of Reggae and ska. The pub had laid on a free buffet and the club’s lovely ladies had been busy with the charity bucket, and our crowd was busy filling the bucket with their hard earned.
The evening ended around 1am and our guests drifted away slowly but full of cheer, free buffet, some great tunes, but with their pockets emptied for a terrific cause.

The B.A.D Old Firm would like to thank in no particular order the following for making our first do such a success: Specials SC, Stanford Parkas SC, Southend Massive, Evesy (BFSC) Craig (AFSC) from Norfolk, Essex solo riders, FAB SC, “Tommy Atkins”, The Forge Pub team, and all those folks who came and raised over £500 to support our Wounded troops.
